SoCal Converge has been actively training and competing as a team since 2008. The roots of the team, however, were planted long before. Matt Lewis was born and raised in San Diego. Andy Malchiodi arrived in Lake Elsinore in 2001, via Florida. Travis Fienhage landed in Perris Valley in 2004, a transplant from New England. In the years prior to 2007, each team member was active in competition, either in freeflying, swooping, or both. All were relentless in the pursuit of their personal best. The 3 came to know each other through the usual channels of boogies and freeflying events. However, a mutual passion for such things as music and surfing, gave them more than just skydiving to talk about. In 2007, along with Kris Reynolds and David Gershfeld, they formed the VFS team, “Faction.” Although only active for a year, the camaraderie that comes with teamwork only strengthened their relationship. Success was inevitable. It was following that year that SoCal Converge was created. Faced with the challenge of uniting a region and 3 dropzones, the namesake evolved. Since that time, SoCal Converge has taken home 3 National Championships , set two world records, and are the 2010 Freefly World Champions. They professionally coach and conduct events across southern California and around the world.
